How to Install Samsung VXT on Android | VXT Support
by Muharani S Ainun on 1-Oct-2026
Can I run Samsung VXT on an Android device instead of a Samsung display?
Yes. Samsung VXT supports Android as a signage player: install the VXT Player app on the Android device, either from Google Play or as a direct APK download from Samsung, then pair the device to your VXT CMS account using a six-digit code. Once paired, it can be managed from the same VXT CMS account as your Samsung Tizen displays, though not every remote management function works identically on Android.
We will show you the feature comparison for the full breakdown in this article together with installation methods, pairing, system requirements, and troubleshooting in detail.
Overview
Samsung VXT is a cloud-based digital signage content management system (CMS). Non-Samsung Android devices are supported as signage players: the VXT Player app runs on the Android device, and the device is then registered ("paired") to your VXT CMS account so it can receive and play scheduled content, alongside Samsung's own Tizen-based displays.
This article applies to administrators or installers connecting an Android device or smartphone as a VXT screen.

Requirements
-
An Android device running Android 10 or later.
-
Recommended hardware: an octa-core 1.9 GHz or higher CPU and at least 3 GB of RAM. Devices below this spec may run VXT Player with reduced performance or limited features.
-
An active VXT CMS account with a licence registered under your organization's workspace.
-
Network connectivity (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) for the Android device.
-
Access to the VXT CMS web dashboard (samsungvx.com) to complete pairing.
Step 1: Install the VXT Player App
There are two official ways to install VXT Player on an Android device.
Method 1: Install from Google Play
-
On the Android device, open the Google Play Store.
-
Search for and download the VXT Player app.
-
Open the app once installation is complete.
Method 2: Download the APK Directly from Samsung
Use this method for devices that don't have Google Play (common on dedicated Android signage boxes/media players), or if VXT Player isn't listed on Google Play for your device.
-
Go to the Samsung VXT Cloud-Based Player page and select Download under VXT Installation Guides > Android. This downloads the VXT Player APK directly from Samsung. Alternatively, from within VXT CMS: go to Screens > Add Screen > More, select No Samsung Screen?, then select How to Install next to the Android item.
-
Transfer the downloaded APK file to the Android device, for example by copying it onto a USB stick and connecting that to the device.
-
On the Android device, use a file manager to locate the APK on the USB drive and open it to install. You may need to enable Install from unknown sources (or Install unknown apps) in the device's Android settings first, since the APK isn't coming from Google Play.
-
Open the VXT Player app once installation is complete.
Security note: Only download the VXT Player APK from Samsung's own domain (vxt.samsung.com / content.samsungvx.com) or through VXT CMS. Third-party APK mirror sites (APKPure and similar) also list "VXT Player" downloads, but these are not official Samsung sources and should not be used or recommended.
Step 2: Pair the Device with VXT CMS
-
Launch the VXT Player app on the Android device. A six-digit pairing code appears on screen.
-
In the VXT CMS web dashboard, go to Screens > Add Screen.
-
Enter the six-digit pairing code shown on the Android device into the code field.
-
Confirm the pairing. The device is now registered as a screen in your VXT CMS account and will sync and receive published content automatically.
Step 3: Publish Content to the Device
- In VXT CMS, open VXT Canvas to create content, or select existing content from your library.
- Select the newly paired Android screen and assign content or a schedule to it.
- Confirm the content plays correctly on the device.
Android Player System Requirements and Limitations
VXT Player on Android has a few differences from Samsung's own Tizen displays that are worth calling out for anyone planning a deployment:
Supported Content
-
Video: MP4 only.
-
Image: BMP, JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF. Recommended resolution is 3840×2160 or lower. Office files (DOC, PPT, PDF): not supported on Android.
-
Office files are supported on all VXT-supported Samsung screens.
Sync Play (Multi-Screen Playback)
-
H.264 codec is recommended.
-
Resolution limits: UHD devices up to 3840×2160/60fps; FHD devices up to 1920×1080/60fps. Only one video at a time can be played via Sync Play.
-
Sync Play is reliable only between Android devices with matching specifications; mixing different specs can cause synchronization errors.
Feature Comparison: Android vs. Samsung Tizen Displays
*Provisioned means the device has been set up through VXT's device provisioning process. Unprovisioned Android devices have reduced remote management capability, notably remote reboot and Bluetooth lock.
Troubleshooting
Pairing code doesn't work or the device doesn't appear in the dashboard.
Pairing codes are time-limited. Relaunch VXT Player to generate a new code and re-enter it in Screens > Add Screen.
VXT Player isn't available on Google Play
Download the APK directly from Samsung instead: vxt.samsung.com > Cloud-Based Player page > VXT Installation Guides > Android > Download (or via VXT CMS: Screens > Add Screen > More > No Samsung Screen? > How to Install). Transfer it to the device via USB and install it manually. See Method 2 above.
Android blocks installation of the downloaded APK ("Install blocked" or similar)
Enable Install from unknown sources / Install unknown apps for the file manager or source app in the device's Android settings, then retry the install.
Content doesn't sync or update on the device
Confirm the device has an active network connection and is not in a low-power/sleep state.
Certain content doesn't play (Office files, HDMI input, etc.)
Check the Android Player limitations above. Some content types and features supported on Samsung Tizen displays are not available on Android.
Migrating from MagicINFO
Displays running Tizen 3.x or earlier (including S3 Orsay and S4 Tizen models) cannot run VXT and require replacement hardware. This does not apply to Android devices, which are unaffected by this restriction.
Summary
Installing Samsung VXT on an Android device follows the same core flow no matter which method you use: install VXT Player through Google Play or a direct APK from Samsung, pair the device to VXT CMS with a six-digit code, then assign content. Once paired, the device operates as a fully managed screen alongside any Samsung Tizen displays on the same account, subject to the Android-specific requirements and limitations covered above.
Frequently asked questions
Android 10 or later. For best performance, Samsung recommends an octa-core 1.9 GHz+ CPU and at least 3 GB of RAM.
Yes. Download the VXT Player APK directly from Samsung's Cloud-Based Player page (or via VXT CMS: Screens > Add Screen > More > No Samsung Screen? > How to Install), transfer it to the device (for example via USB stick), and install it manually. You'll need to enable Install from unknown sources on the device first.
Only download it from Samsung's own domain or through VXT CMS. Do not use third-party APK mirror sites, even ones that list "VXT Player" by name, since they are not official Samsung sources.
Not entirely. Notably, Office file playback (DOC/PPT/PDF), external HDMI input, and the Embargo function are not supported on Android. See the Android Player limitations section above.
Only if it was installed through Google Play. Devices installed via the direct APK/USB method should be checked for updates manually.
